Filipovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Filipovice combines local history with geographical points of reference whose names and chronological context provide a precise picture of the village.

History

Filipovice developed from a farm belonging to the nearby estate of Vikštejn Castle. Count František Josef Filip of Hodic purchased the farm in 1706 and subsequently founded a settlement named after him. The first documented mention of Filipovice dates from 1707, in the parish register of Radkov. In his 1836 topography of the Opava region, Faustin Ens also referred to Filipovice as “Philippdorf” and “Neudörfel”.

In 1867, the inhabitants of Filipovice began collecting donations to build the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The chapel was probably built between 1902 and 1907 and consecrated in 1907; the exact construction date is not known.

Geographical Location

Filipovice can be reached via a local road near the Hradec–Domoradovice–Melč state road. Přílet, a mountain, is located in the surroundings of Filipovice; Horka, also a mountain, is likewise nearby. Vildštejn is a ruin in the vicinity of Filipovice. Cikánské, also called Štáblovice-Lipina, is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Filipovice. Stráž, a mountain, and Cvilin, a ruin, are located in the wider regional surroundings of Filipovice.

Pilgrimage

West of Filipovice lies the Maria Talhof pilgrimage site in a deep valley of the Melčský potok stream. A steep footpath with blue trail markings leads from Filipovice to the Maria Talhof pilgrimage site. Regular pilgrimages to Maria Talhof have taken place again since the second half of the 1990s.
