Culture and History
Melč Chateau and its park are listed as a protected cultural monument. It preserves a core dating from around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries and has a mansard roof. Melč Chateau includes an English park and an enclosing wall.
The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Melč was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style and constructed in 1889–1890 according to plans by A. Bartel and the architect J. M. Olbrich.
Community life also includes traditional and communal events. The Municipality of Melč organizes the traditional bear-leading custom as a cultural community event and also holds a Community Day.
Pilgrimage and Trails
Maria Talhof is located about 1 km from Melč and can be reached from the municipality via a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Maria Talhof pilgrimage site includes a wooden cross and a Lourdes grotto built of stones.
The Maria Talhof pilgrimage site was restored on 14 September 1996 with a cross, an altar, and a renewed Stations of the Cross. Regular pilgrimages are held there for the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The yellow-marked hiking trail from Maria Talhof leads to Melč; from there, hikers can take the bus back to Vítkov.
Nature and Landscape
A state-protected nature park with numerous rare trees and shrubs extends around Melč Chateau.
Mokřinky is now used mainly as a recreational area. Abandoned adits and shafts in Mokřinky provide refuge for protected animals. The bat roosts in the mines of Mokřinky are among the largest in the Czech Republic.
The Dědictví břidlice educational trail begins in Mokřinky and deals with slate mining in the Vítkovsko area.
