Culture and History
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua in Vřesina was consecrated by Bishop František Václav Lobkowicz on 13 June 1998. A wayside shrine was unveiled and consecrated on 5 October 2014 at the site of an old tragedy. Historical steam operation on the Svinov–Poruba–Vřesina line began on 2 August 1925.
The “Mařák” tradition, in which winter is symbolically driven away and spring is welcomed, was observed irregularly in Vřesina from 1905 onward and continues to this day. The chapel with a bell tower near the school in Vřesina is classified as an immovable cultural monument.
