Niva is located in the northern part of the Drahanská vrchovina highlands, west of Prostějov.

Nature

The area around Horní rybník pond is protected as the Nivské louky Nature Monument. Nivské louky comprises meadow communities and wetland areas that support endangered and rare plant and animal species.

The Návesní niva Nature Monument lies in the southern center of Niva. It consists of waterlogged floodplain meadows; the wet meadows support a species-rich plant and animal community, including amphibians. The Bílá Voda stream flows through Niva and supplies all three ponds in the village.

Trails

Several hiking trails and a cycle path pass through Niva. Cycle Route 5075 also runs through the village. It is signposted as the Krakov–Morava–Vienna Greenway and connects Sloup, Repechy, Plumlov, and Prostějov along the stated route.

History

Niva was formerly called Hartmanice. The first written mention of Hartmanice dates from 1347. During the Second World War, Hartmanice was evacuated on November 30, 1942, its population was forcibly resettled, and the village was used by German troops as a practice firing range; after the war, former residents returned.
