The Naučná stezka Velký Kosíř educational trail begins and ends in Čelechovice na Hané. Part of the Čelechovice na Hané municipal area belongs to the Velký Kosíř National Nature Monument; at the same time, the locality is known for the abundance and excellent preservation of fossils of Paleozoic marine fauna.
Nature and Geology
The Čelechovický Devonian is exposed in a series of overgrown and abandoned quarries and outcrops between Čelechovice na Hané, Kaple, and Slatinky. Růžičkův lom is protected as a National Nature Monument and is part of the Naučná stezka Velký Kosíř educational trail. Fossil collecting there is possible only with a special permit.
Getting Around
The Naučná stezka Velký Kosíř educational trail can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. It includes stations about the Čelechovický Devonian and prehistoric settlement. It can be reached by bus or train as far as Čelechovice na Hané, or by car via the Bunička car park near Čelechovice na Hané.
Státní lom can be reached by car without access restrictions; the access point is located up to 250 metres away.
Culture and History
The Orthodox Chapel of the Holy Trinity in Čelechovice na Hané was built during the Second World War. It is maintained and used for religious services. On the way to Kosíř, at the crossroads to Kaple and Kostelec, there is a sandstone cross bearing the year 1765.
A dark-painted sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on the masonry of the sugar factory in Čelechovice dates from 1736.
