Olomouc combines a rich urban history with engaging offerings for different age groups. In the heart of Olomouc lies Pevnost poznání, an interactive science museum for visitors of all ages.

Culture and history

Olomouc Town Hall dominates the Upper Square (Horní náměstí) and has served for more than six centuries as a symbol of the economic, cultural, and political importance of the former royal capital of Moravia. The town hall houses the Gothic Chapel of St. Jerome; its ribbed vault is the oldest vault of the so-called Danubian type in the Czech Republic. The former bishop's palace is now part of the tour of the Archdiocesan Museum. In addition, the Archbishop's Palace in Olomouc is one of the most significant early Baroque buildings in Moravia.

In the immediate vicinity of Olomouc are the Church of St. Michael, the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, and Čechovy sady Park. Further afield in the region are Skalice Mountain, the Pomník obětem 1. světové války memorial, the Socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého monument, and the Růžový Kopec and Horka mountains.

Nature and animals

From Olomouc city center, cyclists can follow the Moravian Trail along the Morava River toward Litovelské Pomoraví. In the immediate vicinity of Olomouc, Litovelské Pomoraví is considered a protected nature park with a flat route suitable for families with children.

Olomouc Zoo is located on Svatý Kopeček and is home to around 300 animal species. Its attractions include marine aquariums with blacktip reef sharks, piranhas, and coral fish.

Food and events

Every April, the Olomoucké-Tvarůžky Festival takes place in the center of Olomouc as an open-air food festival. The program includes cultural experiences on two stages, creative workshops, and a demonstration of the traditional production of Tvarůžky.
