Ondratice lies at the first foothills of the Drahanská vrchovina mountain range. A defining natural area of the village is the Kopaniny protected area, with its diverse landscape and wetland structures.

Nature and Waterways

The Kopaniny protected area consists of a mosaic of former pastures, meadows, small fields and orchards separated from one another by terraced balks. It includes species-rich grassland communities, wet areas with a spring and an extensively managed traditional orchard with standard trees. The entrance to the protected area begins at the end of Ondratice’s upper sports field.

In the northeastern part of Kopaniny, there is a very vital population of fringed gentian. Great crested newts, European tree frogs and common frogs breed in the wetland.

The surrounding water network includes the Ondratický stream: it rises from a spring beside a mighty beech tree in Křenice and flows into the Broděnka stream in Brodek.

History and Local Culture

A one-class school was built in Ondratice in 1870. The current school building was constructed in 1909–1910; classes are no longer held there. The Sokol organization was also founded in Ondratice in 1919.

The village’s smaller cultural monuments include several religious landmarks. The stone cross on the road to Drysice was reconstructed and its surroundings were restored. The stone cross at the children’s playground in Ondratice was also reconstructed. The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes in Ondratice was restored in 2010.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk with a bell tower in Ondratice is listed as an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It was restored and fitted with a tower in 1898.
