Polom U Hranic: Chapel, Park and Pond System

The Chapel of St. Catherine in Polom dates from 1846. It has Baroque organs from the workshop of Johann Neusser and belongs to the parish of Bělotín. A cross dating from 1852 stands beside the chapel. These three elements combine architectural history, ecclesiastical affiliation and an independent landmark in the village landscape.

The chapel and the cross form a sacred focal point, while the round kiln, monument and park mark other historical points of reference. For the purposes of viewing the village landscape, these features can therefore be distinguished according to their respective character: ecclesiastical furnishings, local history and a public space of remembrance stand side by side.

Culture

The Cihelny Polom complex, with an original historic round kiln, is also part of the village's history. In the Middle Ages, the hereditary bailiff of Polom protected the so-called Amber Road. Another historical reference point stands at the centre of Parčík Republiky, created in 2018: a monument commemorating the founding of Czechoslovakia is located there. The park is equipped with benches, a pergola, an avenue of fruit trees and a drinking fountain.

The Village Day takes place on the third Saturday in August. Thus, differently dated features stand side by side in Polom: the medieval connection with the Amber Road, the historic round kiln, the monument from 2018 and the annually scheduled date of Village Day. Nature

Polom's local pond system comprises Horní Polom, Dolní Polom and Sádka. Cestička k lesu provides another connection with the landscape. The mixed avenue of fruit trees, planted with public participation, leads towards Lučice and produces abundant fruit every year. Thus, three named ponds meet a route lined with fruit trees and a park with its own facilities.

Parčík Republiky is often used as a stopover by cyclists. Together with the avenue of fruit trees near Cestička k lesu, this means that cycling is also one of the described features of the village. The water surfaces, fruit trees and park elements remain recognisable as distinct components of the village landscape.

Polom railway station is located on railway line 271. Access to the station building or the shelter at Polom station is step-free. Alongside the chapel, historic sites, park, pond system and avenue of fruit trees, the station therefore represents an independent transport point in Polom.
