Hranice na Moravě: Hotels and accommodations
The Zbrašov Aragonite Caves are located in the vicinity of Hranice na Moravě. With a constant year-round temperature of 14.5 °C, they are the warmest caves in the Czech Republic; they have been open to the public since 1926.
Culture
Hranice Castle houses a museum. In the exhibition “Hranice na mušce,” it displays weapons from the Hranice depot. The castle courtyard features a unique glass roof. Its construction history began with a fortress built in the 14th century, first mentioned in 1398.
The Hranice Synagogue commemorates the Jewish community of Hranice, which arrived here at the beginning of the 17th century. The present building was constructed in 1863 in the then-prevailing Moorish-Byzantine style and served for religious services until 1940.
The Jewish Cemetery in Hranice was declared a cultural monument in 1991 and has been open to the public since 1994. It can be visited upon request at the Hranice TIC; the TIC lends visitors a key for this purpose. The oldest surviving gravestone dates from 1684/1685.
Kostelíček in Hranice is a pilgrimage site. Its complex includes 14 Stations of the Cross chapels. The first written mention of Kostelíček dates from 1492.
Nature
The arboretum of the Secondary Forestry School in Hranice contains unique woody plants and a botanical-geological educational rock garden. It also features an approximately one-kilometre-long educational trail with nine stations. The information boards cover woody plants, ornithology, beekeeping, botany, environmental education and the geological history of the Moravian Gate.
In the surrounding area, the Hůrka National Nature Reserve near Hranice protects unique karst formations as well as rare flora and fauna. The reserve covers 37.45 hectares. The Hranice Abyss is part of this National Nature Reserve. A measured total depth of 519.5 metres and a water depth of 450 metres have been reported for it.
Getting around
Hranice is easily accessible by train, car and bus. The Bečva Cycle Route begins in Hranice behind the bridge over the Bečva and runs along the left bank of the Bečva to Týn nad Bečvou. Visitors can take trips along the cycle route by bicycle, kick scooter or inline skates.
