Protivanov: Hotels and Accommodations

Protivanov combines a clearly identifiable landscape area with sacred and historical landmarks. Natural monuments, mountains, and individual structures are distributed across the town itself as well as its closer and wider regional surroundings.

Nature and Landscape

The Protivanov natural monument and Natura 2000 site is located in the valley of the Protivanovský potok, approximately 0.5 km northwest of Protivanov. Southwest of the town is U žlíbku, a sloping meadow in the Drahanská vrchovina at an elevation of 630 m.

The Skály area is the highest point of the Drahanská vrchovina. Skály is also a mountain in the vicinity of Protivanov, as is Skalky. Bučí and Skatulec are mountains in the surroundings of Protivanov. The Protivanovský okruh trail runs along the edge of the forest to the Louky pod Skalkami natural monument and then returns to Protivanov.

Culture and History

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in 1772 to replace the church that burned down in 1771. The church contains a stone baptismal font as a historical memorial. The church can be visited by prior arrangement.

The crucifix standing on the road to Boskovice in Protivanov is a cast-iron cross on a colorfully painted stone pedestal. The Baroque pedestal dates from 1798, while the cross probably dates from a later period; its creator is unknown. In a field beside the road from Protivanov toward Niva, there is also a masonry and plastered niche chapel from the 19th century.
