Nature and Landscape

Part of the municipality of Hvozd lies within Kladecko Nature Park, which also includes the Taramka natural monument. The area contains fragments of Hercynian oak-hornbeam forests, species-rich beech forests, calcareous beech forests and a mesic tall oat-grass meadow with protected and endangered plant species.

The Špraněk flows through the cadastral area of Hvozd in a deeply incised valley; karst formations can be found in its surroundings. The source of the small Pilávka stream is also located near Hvozd, in a forest between Hvozd and Bohuslavice. From the road leading from Bohuslavice to Hvozd, a footpath leads to the source of the Pilávka after approximately 300 metres.

From Stráž Hill south of Hvozd, the most distant visible places are up to 63 kilometres away.

Paths and Routes

The blue-marked hiking trail leads from Malé Hradisko via Stražisko and Budětsko through Hvozd to Vojtěchov. The Špraněk educational trail route runs partly through the territory of Hvozd.

Cycle Route No. 5277 between Milkov and Bohuslavice runs through the territory of Hvozd. In addition, the yellow-marked hiking trail from Vojtěchov to Javoříčko passes through the territory of Hvozd.

Near Hvozd, the five-kilometre-long Špraněk educational trail runs as a circular route through the Špraněk National Nature Reserve; it begins and ends at the Javoříčko Caves.

Culture and History

The immovable cultural monument No. 22357/7-5554, the wayside shrine near House No. 94, is registered in the cadastral area of Hvozd. The shrine has a block-like design and a glazed front niche. It is an example of small-scale folk architecture from the 18th century.

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in the village square of Hvozd is classified as a monument of local importance. A stone cross stands in front of the chapel. The chapel has a slender bell tower, resembles a small church and bears the year 1906 above the entrance.

According to local legend, a stone statue near Hvozd is known as the petrified fairy Pilávka. The Hvozdecká cesta is mentioned in 1279 as a connection between the areas of Mohelnice and Litovel and Konice.

The wayside shrine on the road to Luká is protected as an immovable cultural monument and is a folk structure dating from the 18th century.
