Vidnava: Hotels and Accommodation
The remains of Vidnava’s late medieval town fortifications from the 15th and 16th centuries form the natural boundaries of the town’s heritage conservation zone. Vidnava’s original square preserves a paving of river cobbles as well as two columns with statues of saints.
Culture
Vidnava’s Renaissance chateau, dating from the third quarter of the 16th century, is a detached, single-storey building with two square corner towers. Sgraffito is visible on the towers, discovered during restoration in 1971.
The Parish Church of St Catherine in Vidnava has a valuable portal dating from the 13th century. According to the date on a marble block, its imposing tower with battlements and loopholes was built in 1537 and reduced to 7.5 metres in 1883.
The Church of St Francis of Assisi in Vidnava was built at the end of the 19th century as part of the former church grammar school. It invites visitors to pause and reflect in silence, as well as to contemplate the spiritual and cultural heritage of the place.
The settlement exhibition in Vidnava is housed in the restored burgher house Dům partnerství at Sokolská 12. It covers the areas of history, geomorphology and zoology, a depiction of a black medieval kitchen, as well as notable personalities from Vidnava and the surrounding area. The exhibition is aimed primarily at tourists.
Nature
The Vidnavské mokřiny Nature Reserve was established on 10 April 1996 by order of the Jeseník District Office, reference no. 96/ŽP/891. Rare aquatic plants occur in the nature reserve, including round-leaved sundew.
With its bodies of water, ponds and marshy wet meadows, Vidnavské mokřiny invites visitors to go for walks, sit by the water, observe nature and fish. The Vidnavský okruh cycling route of the Rychlebské stezky leads through the picturesque landscape of Vidnava. A 25-kilometre cross-border circular route leads from Vidnava via Kalkow and Otmuchów to Lake Otmuchów and back to Vidnava.
