Vranovice-Kelčice: Hotels and Accommodation

Vranovice-Kelčice is located in the Prostějov Uplands on the southwestern edge of the Upper Moravian Depression. The landscape is gently undulating and flat; broad, rounded ridges are crossed by the valleys of the Kelčický potok.

Geographical Location

The Kelčický potok crosses the settlement along its entire length from west to east. The Předina, with a radio transmitter and the Štátule lookout tower, is located in the cadastral area of Kelčice and above Dobrochov. Předina rises to 313 metres and is considered the geographical centre of Moravia.

The Štátule lookout tower is a 10-metre-high wooden tower with an 8-metre-high viewing platform. From the lookout tower, there are views of the Jeseníky, the Hostýnské vrchy, Záhoří, the Drahanská vrchovina and the Chřiby. The lookout tower is designated as freely accessible year-round. In the past, Předina was a destination for excursions and gatherings.

Cycle Route No. 5041 runs through Vranovice-Kelčice along the Určice–Dětkovice–Vranovice–Kelčice–Dobrochov–Brodek u Prostějova route. The D46 expressway runs between the districts of Vranovice and Kelčice and connects the municipality via the grade-separated, figure-eight-shaped Vranovice-Kelčice interchange.

Nature

The western part of the cadastral area of Vranovice-Kelčice extends into the Blátka Nature Reserve. The nature reserve includes meadows, wetlands and woodland around the Kelčický potok and contains protected plants. Blátka covers approximately 84 hectares and was designated in 1985.

History

Vranovice is first mentioned in written records in 1337 and belonged to Prostějov from the 16th century until 1848. Kelčice is first reliably mentioned in writing in 1258 and remained the property of the Olomouc Chapter until 1848. Vranovice and Kelčice were merged in 1964 into a municipality officially named Vranovice–Kelčice.

Culture

Vranovice and Kelčice preserve clearly recognisable linear village structures with characteristic two-storey farmsteads. The parish of Vranovice in connection with the Church of St Kunhuta has been mentioned since 1399. The Church of St Kunhuta is a Romanesque cultural monument and is one of the oldest churches in the Prostějov region.
