Žumberk: Hotels and Accommodation

The Žumberk castle ruins are the dominant cultural monument of the town.

Culture

Žumberk Castle was inhabited by nobles until 1700. It is pentagonal in shape and is separated from the rest of the rocky spur on three sides by a deep and wide moat.

The Žumberk Museum opened on 24 November 2007. Its exhibitions are based on documents from the municipal archives and donations from the residents of Žumberk. Another monument is the Horní Mill, Mrkvičkův mlýn: it is an immovable cultural monument and has a preserved foundation inscription on a stone tablet dating from 1548.

The Church of All Saints, Kostel Všech svatých, dates from the 14th century and is mentioned as a parish church in 1349. A late Gothic sanctuary has been preserved in its sacristy. The Church of St. George, Svatý Jiří, is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Žumberk.

Nature

Žumberk lies at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in a charming wooded landscape with steep, rocky slopes, a valley, ponds, and the Holetínka stream. The Holetínka valley is used for recreation thanks to a wooded holiday cottage area extending upstream from Bítovany via Žumberk.

Cycling

The 62-kilometre cycling route “Through the Landscape of the Ležák, Žejbro and Krounka” passes through the village square of Žumberk and to Žumberk Castle.
