Ústupky at Seč Reservoir: Routes to Oheb Castle Ruins

Ústupky is a holiday settlement in the southern part of Seč Reservoir, located about 200 metres from Seč Reservoir. The waterside setting provides the geographical backdrop for a stay shaped by the shore, nature, and historical destinations.

The regional hiking route “Za romantikou na hrad Oheb” runs along the blue-marked trail through Ústupky. The Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky educational trail continues through Ústupky to Oheb Castle Ruins. From Ústupky, a blue-marked hiking trail leads towards Oheb Castle Ruins; at the same time, it is marked as the Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky. Thus, the route to the ruins features both a regional route name and clearly recognisable trail markings.

The hike from Ústupky to Oheb Castle Ruins runs mostly along marked trails and involves only small changes in elevation. The hike from Ústupky to Oheb Castle Ruins is considered suitable for children and dogs, but unsuitable for prams. The blue-marked hiking trail follows the reservoir shore back to Ústupky. The trip combines the historical destination with a return route along the water.

Oheb Castle was founded at the end of the 14th century. In the vicinity of Ústupky lies the ruins of a 14th-century castle known as Oheb Castle Ruins, overlooking Seč Reservoir. In Ústupky, Oheb Castle Ruins are an immovable cultural monument.

Oheb Nature Reserve protects natural submontane scree forests, relict pine forests, and acidophilous woodrush-beech forests. Oheb Nature Reserve also includes extensive scree areas. The reserve contains rocky sites that serve as nesting grounds for eagle owls. Oheb Nature Reserve is an important malacological site. Forest communities, open scree areas, and rocks therefore form the different landscape elements of this protected area.

At the beaches of Ústupky, the water entry is shallow and therefore suitable for children to swim. Swimming in Seč Reservoir is possible in the vicinity of Ústupky. In summer, visitors can swim, fish, and enjoy water sports in the reservoir around Ústupky; pedal boats and boats are also available for hire. Depending on the desired activity, the water therefore offers opportunities for swimming as well as fishing and water sports.

Ústupky has numerous marked cycling routes. In winter, there are marked and groomed cross-country ski trails around Ústupky. Cycling and cross-country skiing complement the marked hiking trails with seasonally different forms of travel.

A road leads from Seč northwards to Ústupky. Ústupky has several pubs and restaurants. There is also a wide range of accommodation of various types in Ústupky, giving the settlement its own tourist infrastructure alongside its trails, reservoir, and nature reserve.
