Prosetín: Hotels and Accommodation

Prosetín is characterized by its granite history, the geologically shaped landscape of the Železné hory Mountains, and several places of remembrance. There is also an educational trail in the immediate vicinity and a private goat farm on the outskirts of the village.

History and Culture

The first written mention of Prosetín – essentially as the two settlements of Prasetín and Malý Prasetín – dates from 1445. The construction of the Pardubice–Německý Brod railway line later paved the way for the local granite industry in Prosetín.

In the center of Prosetín, next to a chapel on the road between Prosetín and Skuteč, there is an information board. The chapel is a prominent landmark of Prosetín: its exterior is completely new, while the interior is old. A large boulder in the village center serves as a memorial to those who fell.

Geology and Landscape

The geosite near Prosetín lies in the eastern part of the Železné hory National Geopark, in a hilly landscape with rounded elevations. The rocks around Prosetín belong to the Železné hory plutonic complex. The rock exposed at the Prosetín geosite is generally referred to as “Skuteč granite.”

There are numerous abandoned and flooded quarries around Prosetín, which have become a natural part of the landscape. The Holec Quarry was one of the first granite quarries opened in the Železné hory Mountains. The open-pit quarry at the Prosetín site provides an insight into the core of the igneous body of the Nasavrky Pluton. At the site, pyrite (iron sulfide) forms radiating aggregates on joints under tensile stress, reminiscent of depictions of the sun.

Getting Around

No marked hiking trails run through the municipality of Prosetín. The “Stopy Ležácké tragédie” educational trail lies in the immediate vicinity of Prosetín, northwest of the municipality. It follows the traces of the resistance movement and the tragic events in Ležáky during the Second World War, was opened to the public in 2010, is 13 kilometers long, and has eight stations.

Local Products

There is a private goat farm on the outskirts of Prosetín. It is open to tourists and anyone interested in goat products, and produces cheese, yogurt, and ice cream from goat’s milk.
