Raná U Hlinska: Hotels and Accommodation

Raná lies at an altitude of 485 m on the Raná stream, which was also known as Černý potok and Dolský potok. The historic settlement pattern was shaped by large timber-framed and later masonry farmsteads along the road. In the central part of the village, the Church of St. James the Elder stands on a slight hill.

History and Village Character

The first written mention of Raná dates from 1349; at that time, the village was part of the Rychmburk estate. Three water-powered grain mills and a sawmill once operated on the Raná stream. In the village district of Oldřetice, larger enclosed agricultural homesteads have been preserved along the stream. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the village square dates from 1894.

Culture and History

The Church of St. James the Elder was originally Gothic, is documented as early as 1350, was remodeled in the Baroque style in 1718, and later acquired its Neo-Gothic appearance. The complex includes an enclosure wall around the cemetery and a mortuary chapel from the early 18th century. A masonry bell tower dating from 1835 is also part of the church complex. Original historic wall paintings were discovered inside the church.

Landscape and Everyday Life

Raná and the village districts of Oldřetice and Medkovy Kopce are situated in an unspoiled landscape that gives them a special atmosphere. Raná has an outdoor classroom at a single-class primary school for the first stage, with school childcare.

Cycling Routes and Church Services

Cycling routes No. 18 and 4122 run through the municipality of Raná on Class III roads. The Roman Catholic parish of Raná holds regular church services on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and Fridays at 6:00 p.m.
