The Pernštejnskými rybníky educational trail route is a circular trail approximately 9 km long. It runs mostly along unpaved paths, including about 200 m along a forest path and 1.5 km along a road. Along the route are ponds dating from the 15th and 20th centuries, whose dams are also part of the trail. The route demonstrates how sophisticated water-management structures served fish farmers over the centuries.
Water and History
The Opatovický kanál was built from 1498 to 1521 to supply the network of fishponds originally established by Vilém z Pernštejna. The 32.69 km-long canal allows for a leisurely full-day trip at a maximum speed of 5 km/h. The Opatovický kanál is also used for water tourism at difficulty level ZWB and for fishing in a non-trout water.
The Bohdanečská Alej k Neratovu is a significant landscape feature (VKP) that is historically and locally connected with the Opatovický kanál.
