Local History and Layout

Plch was founded in 1777 on the site of a drained pond. After the houses, which had previously been built mainly of wood and thatched with straw, were demolished, the village was rebuilt in its present location and laid out as a settlement with two rows of houses. Plch consists of a single street approximately 700 metres long.

Water and the Village Name

A dam running from Dolany to Osice still recalls the former pond in Plch. Water from Plch flowed through it towards Dolany. Plch also had a drainage ditch known as the “plchovský odpad”; a basin was built in a second depression.

The name Plch is associated with an hereditary tenant named Plch and with the meadows known as “Plchové olšiny”.

Connections and Events

The road connection from Plch to neighbouring Staré Ždánice and thus to the so-called Hradec Road, the road from Přelouč to Hradec Králové, was established in 1846. Several times a year, entertainment events are held at the municipality-owned local inn under the auspices of local organisations.

A joint New Year's walk with sausage roasting was announced in Plch for 1 January 2023. A traditional gathering of witches and wizards was announced in Plch for 30 April 2024; refreshments were planned for this witches' gathering. Visits by the Three Kings with traditional singing were announced in Plch for 6 January 2024, and a visit by the Three Kings for 6 January 2025.

Sport and Transport

New, partially modified traditional routes were prepared for the 20th edition of the CZECHMAN Triathlon in 2026. As part of the CZECHMAN Triathlon 2026, a road closure was scheduled for 6 June 2026 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; it extended along Road No. 32316 to the turn-off in Plch.
