Culture and History

The Neo-Renaissance Church of St Nicholas in Podůlšany was completed in 1903. The present church replaced a wooden building of the same dedication dating from 1665; most of the interior furnishings from the former Church of St Nicholas have been preserved. The church is accessible only occasionally during services. The first written mention of Podůlšany dates from 1142; the place was formerly also known as Podolšany. The Church of St George is also located in the vicinity of Podůlšany.

Nature

The bed of the Opatovický Canal often has the form of natural river meanders. The Skupice hill [Osice] is located in the immediate vicinity of Podůlšany. The surrounding area also includes the (Na Podbahní) hill [Pardubice-Ohrazenice], the (Kopaninské) hill [Staré Hradiště], and Kavkaz hill [Libčany].

Cycle Route 4040, which passes through Podůlšany, runs mainly through open countryside. As a regional cycle route, it leads from Lázně Bohdaneč via Dolany and Staré Ždánice to Podůlšany and then on to Čeperka; the stated route length is 12 km, while the distance marker at the destination shows 12.2 km.
