Újezd u Přelouče combines a village history dating back to the Middle Ages with forests, ponds, and regularly held events. The local history is particularly vividly illustrated by the Church of St. Giles and its bell tower.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Giles is the oldest historical building in Újezd u Přelouče. A church dedicated to St. Giles already stood there before 1384. The present church is a Baroque building erected in 1703 on medieval foundations and rebuilt again at the end of the 18th century. The church also houses an organ built by Josef Ignác Welzel in 1855.

North of the Church of St. Giles stands a small Baroque wooden bell tower with a rectangular ground plan and a shingle-covered pyramidal roof. In 1576, the bell tower had two bells; today, only one bell remains.

The war memorial in Újezd u Přelouče commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Commemorative ceremonies are regularly held at the memorial.

Events

TJ Sokol organizes summer dance events in Újezd u Přelouče. They have become a significant social event for young people from the wider area.

During Pálení čarodějnic, participants meet at the chapel at 5 p.m. and proceed from there in a procession to the fire. Afterwards, they receive small refreshments at the Maypole celebration in the cultural grounds.

The traditional Christmas tree lighting event began on December 2, 2023, at 5 p.m. at the Christmas tree on the village square. It continued in the cultural grounds with traditional refreshments, a Christmas workshop for children, and singing by the singer Mašková.
