Veliny: Hotels and Accommodations

The 4.5-kilometre Veliny–Borohrádek cycle path connects Veliny with Borohrádek and is suitable for cyclists, pedestrians and inline skaters. Part of the path also forms part of the Knight Velinga educational trail.

Nature and Trails

The Knight Velinga educational trail runs through almost all of Veliny, but does not form a complete circular route. On the western side of Veliny, it leads into the forest to the remains of a former fortress. Scattered along the educational trail are elements for play and learning.

At the “U čtyř pánů” rest area, there is a wooden shelter with seating.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Nicholas in Veliny was built in 1752 as a wooden log church with a shingle roof. Its sacristy contains a so-called Josephine coffin dating from around the 1780s. From spring to autumn, visitors can look inside the church through a wrought-iron grille.

The complex of the Church of St. Nicholas includes a wooden mortuary, which is built into the cemetery enclosure. Today, in addition to its original purpose, the church also serves as a cultural and social centre.

The monument to those who fell in the First World War, “Obětem 1914–1919”, is a stone mound monument with an inset commemorative plaque on a square pedestal. The municipality also sells a tourist plaque for the Church of St. Nicholas, numbered 1396.

Surroundings

Near Veliny lies Tábor Mlýnek in a quiet wooded area; it is a complex of cabins.
