Stradouň: Hotels and Accommodations
Stradouň already appears in written sources in 1160: at that time, Vladyka Štěpán donated the income from a toll to the Podlažice monastery.
History
The location of the settlement was connected with long-distance trade from an early date, as Stradouň lay on the important Trstenická trade route. Later, the settlement belonged to the Chroustovice estate, whose owners were the Slavat and Žerotín families.
The history of potatoes in Stradouň is also connected with a local tradition. According to it, potatoes arrived in the settlement around the beginning of the second half of the 18th century. A farmer from Štokravy in Austria is said to have brought them there in connection with the salt trade.
Traditions
The Easter tradition of Vodění Jidáše has been documented in Stradouň by eyewitness accounts since the end of the 19th century. It includes rattling and processions on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, a procession with Jidáš passes through the settlement after nine o’clock, stops at every house, and ends with the burning of Jidáš. This procession covers almost three kilometres through Stradouň.
Landscape
Stradouň lies in the broad valley of the Loučná. The Bětnický stream flows through the centre of the settlement; along its course there is a prominent stand of alder, linden, ash, and oak trees. The wooded areas are small, covering about 5 hectares, and are concentrated on the eastern and northern outskirts of the settlement.
Traditions and Regional Routes
According to a local tradition, human bones were found in the hill. They were attributed to Russians who are said to have reached the area during the Napoleonic Wars.
Regional cycle route 4192 runs from Stradouň via Vraclav to Vysoké Mýto; this section is 9.4 km long.
