Biskupice: Hotels and Accommodation

Directly above Biskupice lies the prehistoric Hrubé kolo hillfort: an elongated ellipse measuring 80 by 90 metres and surrounded by a moat.

Culture and History

The château in Biskupice was built between 1713 and 1716 on the site of an older fortress that had previously fallen into disrepair. This earlier fortress also included the manorial brewery, where beer was brewed until 1870. Today, only minor remains of the walls of Plankenberk Castle survive.

The late Baroque Church of Saints Peter and Paul replaced an older church and was consecrated in September 1776. It has four altars containing relics of saints, including John of Nepomuk and Wenceslaus. The restored statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the village square near the fire station; the statue of Saint Florian dates from around 1726.

Next to the municipal office stands a monument approximately six metres high commemorating the victims of the First World War. It bears four plaques with the names of the fallen and those who died as a result of their injuries; the upper part depicts a male figure symbolising the struggle for freedom.

Landscape and Bodies of Water

The Biskupický stream flows through Biskupice and empties into the Jevíčka approximately one kilometre west of the village. The stream is 5.25 kilometres long; more than half of its catchment area is forested. The Kamenná hora mountain is also located in the cadastral area of Biskupice and, at 550 metres above sea level, forms the highest point.

Traditions and Routes

The Biskupické Kaléšek slivovitz festival reached its 27th edition in 2025.

A blue-marked excursion route connects the Calvary of Jaroměřice with the ruins of Plankenberk Castle, leads to the site of the prehistoric Hrubé kolo hillfort and continues to Biskupice. The excursion report gives a distance of 7.9 kilometres to Biskupice.
