Útěchov: Hotels and Accommodation

Útěchov lies 2 km south of Moravská Třebová in a valley running from south to north, through which the Třebůvka flows. In summer, it is usually a quiet stream, but during the spring snowmelt or severe storms it can turn into a raging torrent.

Landscape

The eastern side of Útěchov is dominated by the west-facing slope of Kamenná hora, whose highest point reaches 577 metres. The Kamenné hory mountains date from the Cretaceous period and consist of sandstone and marl.

The western side of Útěchov consists of the undulating Ovčiny landscape, formerly called Ovčácké údolí, which is geologically assigned to the Permian period. The western spur of the Kamenné hory mountains is called Kouzelná hora; because of its distinctive shape, local residents also call it “Ošatková hora”.

A marked local cycling route passes through Útěchov.

History

Slavic settlement has been documented on the hill now called Hrádek between Útěchov and Dlouhá Loučka. Towards the end of this period, during the reign of Břetislav, a hillfort was built there. At Hrádek, the fortifications were rebuilt; ditches were dug and new ramparts, the castle mound and the outer bailey were constructed.

At the southern edge of Útěchov, traces of ditches and ramparts mark the site of a former water fortress, dated on the basis of archaeological finds to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The oldest building in Útěchov is the former feudal manor, which was once the seat of the vassals of the Moravská Třebová estate.

When the Třebůvka was regulated in Útěchov in 1935, five bridges and three footbridges had to be built. Finds from the Útěchov cadastral area include an elongated stone grinder from the Neolithic period, which is kept in the museum in Moravská Třebová.

Culture

The Útěchov belfry is currently in a dilapidated condition and is not used for ringing. Historically, Útěchov held a Shrovetide feast known as “Sautanz”, featuring jitrnice sausages, barley soup, sausages and meat.
