Janůvky, with a population of 40, lies in a valley beneath wooded slopes and the peaks of the Svitavská vrchovina, southwest of Moravská Třebová and northwest of Jevíčko.

History

Janůvky was founded during the German colonization. The first written reference to the village dates from 1365; that year, Janůvky belonged to the Třebová estate. In 1408, the Lords of Kunštát granted it the right of escheat.

The historical population of Janůvky made a living, among other things, from agriculture and worked, among other things, in contract weaving. In 1880, Janůvky had a one-class elementary school, as it did in 1900. The former school building serves as the municipal office. Janůvky belongs to the Křenov parish. A fund association for a chapel of Saint Gotthard and the seven holy plague patrons is documented in Janůvky for 1904.

Culture

In the vicinity of Janůvky, lignite, refractory clay, and slate were mined from the mid-19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The former bell tower of Janůvky stood farther west next to a shaft where refractory clay was mined.

The bell tower in Janůvky was built in 2013 as a replacement for an earlier bell tower that had probably already been destroyed during the Second World War.
