History and architectural heritage
The Church of Saint Martin in Blížejov has a Renaissance portal with heraldic decoration and a side tower. The presbytery contains a band of wall paintings from the late 14th century.
The chateau complex with its farmyard lies in the southern part of the municipality on both sides of the road to Šlovice. The fortress in Blížejov, dating from the 14th century, was rebuilt as a Baroque chateau; in the second half of the 19th century, the chateau was given a façade.
The archaeological settlement area discovered in Blížejov has been dated, based on the pottery, to the Late Bronze Age, specifically the 10th to 9th centuries BC. The newly discovered prehistoric settlement area increased the number of sites from this period in the Domažlice region to 17.
Cycling connections
The Přátelství Cycle Route No. 2141 passes through Blížejov. The Furth im Wald–Plzeň section of International Long-Distance Cycle Route No. 3 also passes through the town.
Landscape and bodies of water
Blížejov lies on the left bank of the Zubřina stream. Planina Hill [Horšovský Týn] is located in the vicinity of Blížejov. In the wider regional area are the mountains Spálený vrch, Škarmanka, and Běleč.
Chotiměř
In Chotimer (Chotiměř), a district of the municipality of Blížejov, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is a cultural monument located in a former chateau park. The chapel has a hexagonal shape and one above-ground floor.
