Blovice between Castle, Culture and Water
Blovice draws attention to Hradiště Castle, whose present form was created through an elaborate Neo-Gothic reconstruction between 1872 and 1874. At the southeastern edge of Blovice, the Neo-Gothic castle stands on a spur of land bordered by the Úslava and the Komoranský stream.
Culture and History
The cellars of Hradiště Castle preserve remains of the original Gothic fortress. The castle’s historical cellar exhibition presents its Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Empire development through 3D models, video presentations and archaeological finds. The Baroque Church of St. John the Evangelist stands on a terrace above the Úslava and is a protected cultural monument. The Kolowrat family burial chapel is located north of the church nave. It is an Empire chapel dating from 1833. Blovice Jewish Cemetery preserves 214 gravestones.
The historical sites differ in their architectural form and presentation. At the castle, preserved building elements are combined with an exhibition, while the church, burial chapel and cemetery offer further sacred and funerary perspectives. Considering these forms separately allows visitors to tailor the cultural focus of their stay more precisely to their own interests.
Nature and Trails
The castle park was laid out in the then-modern English style during the extensive Neo-Gothic redesign of the castle between 1872 and 1874. The park preserves a brick bridge with a railing shaped like interconnected tree stumps and branches. The Museum of the Southern Pilsen Region in Blovice is located on the blue KČT hiking route 1413.
The Blovice biotope uses a biological method without chemical treatment to purify water, filtering it through lagoons planted with aquatic plants. It has a wooden footbridge and a lawn for sunbathing. The park, hiking route and biotope each emphasize something different: designed landscape, marked trail and water-related facility. This distinction helps visitors clearly organize the stations they want to visit in Blovice.
Various levels of observation also exist side by side within the castle park: The design refers to the extensive Neo-Gothic redesign, while the preserved bridge makes a single architectural detail visible. Together with the blue KČT hiking route 1413, this creates a connection between the park design, museum and trail structure without presenting the sites as a single unified offering.
Getting There
Blovice can be reached by bus and train. For planning purposes, these two means of transport can be considered independently of the choice between cultural monuments, the park, hiking route and biotope. This keeps transport and daily itinerary as separate decision points.
When choosing a hotel in Blovice, you can consider travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions separately. These details provide a practical basis for comparison alongside the town’s cultural, park and water-related features described above. This keeps accommodation details separate from the choice of places to visit.
