Hlohová lies in a gently hilly landscape on the right bank of the Zubřina stream, just above its confluence with the Radbuza. The village occupies the upper part of a small valley formed by water conveyed from the Chmelnice into the Zubřina.
Landscape
The surrounding landscape includes several elevations: Klítka Hill [Hlohovčice], Hora Hill [Staňkov-město], and Kamenná hora Hill [Holýšov] are located in the vicinity of Hlohová. Běleč Mountain lies in the wider regional area surrounding Hlohová.
Culture and History
The Church of St. Giles is a Baroque church built between 1764 and 1766. It preserves the presbytery of an older, presumably Gothic church, as well as three stone floor slabs; one of them bears the coat of arms of the Videršpergár family.
The former fortress in Hlohová is first mentioned in writing in 1368. Parts of the moat and ramparts of the former fortress are visible in the cadastral area of Hlohová.
Pasecký mlýn is also associated with a literary tradition: According to tradition, it served as the model for the mill in Jirásek's play Lucerna. The Pasecký mlýn complex includes a mill, farm buildings, a bakery, and the remains of an enclosing wall with a chapel.
Hlohovská tůň is one of the ten thematic information boards on the “In the Footsteps of Jirásek’s Lucerna” educational trail.
