Hvozd: Hotels and accommodation

Hvozd lies on a gently sloping plateau surrounded on three sides by a large, largely uninhabited complex of the Manětín forests.

Landscape and nature

The Hvozd district is located in the Manětínská Nature Park. The hill “Citeř [Hvozd - Hodoviz]” is in the vicinity of Hvozd, as is the hill “Hůrky [Štichovice]”. Mount Berdovna is located in the vicinity of Hvozd, while Mount Vladař lies in the wider regional surroundings of Hvozd.

History and buildings

Hvozd was first mentioned in writing in 1253. The Chapel of Saint John the Baptist stands on the northern side of Hvozd village green. It has a rectangular ground plan, a semicircular apse, a gabled roof and a roof turret. The statue of the Archangel Michael was erected in 1772 by Terezie Lažanská, née z Lisova. In the cadastral area of Hodoviz in the municipality of Hvozd is the small square hillfort Hradiště Vyšehrad on a rocky spur; the surviving stone ramparts are 0.5 to 1 metre high. A Baroque statue of the Archangel Michael fighting the devil stands at the intersection of the Bažantnice–Manětín road and the turnoff to Hodovíz.

Novy Dvur Monastery, the Zřícenina Lina ruins, the Svatý Prokop monument and the “Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral” church are located in the wider regional surroundings of Hvozd.

The 37-kilometre “Baroko II” cycling route runs through Hodovíz, the “Hvozd bus” section and Dražeň.
