Mirošov U Rokycan: Churches, Trails and Landscape

Culture

In 1693, Adam František Vratislav z Mitrovic had the Chapel of St. Joseph built in Mirošov U Rokycan; today, it forms the central part of the Church of St. Joseph. The Mirošov parish is located on Nejedlého Street, almost opposite the Church of St. Joseph. The present two-storey building in the Neoclassical style was built in 1888 after the original Baroque building burned down in 1887.

The buildings around Náměstí míru comprise a mixture of mostly Late Neoclassical, but also Art Nouveau and Baroque ground-floor and multi-storey buildings. In the courtyard of the Mirošov parish, the exhibition pavilion hosts exhibitions, especially during the Mirošov pilgrimages and church fairs. “Mirošovský kamenný zástup” is a walk to the Baroque sculptural furnishings of Mirošov. The townscape, church festivities and the walk each provide different cultural focal points.

History

The fortified site of Dvorec lies on the bank of the Skořický potok in the Na Hrádku area. It consists of a high rampart with a flat, approximately trapezoidal surface and is enclosed by a horseshoe-shaped ditch with a rampart, open towards the stream. Dvorec is among the currently protected archaeological features. At the summit of the site stands a small Neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes beneath a lime tree protected as a historic monument.

In the vicinity of Mirošov, the Church of St. James the Greater in Chylice was already standing in 1295. In 1753, it was repaired again together with its tower. The pilgrimages to St. James at this church were very well known in the vicinity of Mirošov until the 1980s; afterwards, their tradition in the area around the church was interrupted.

Landscape

The Mirošov Basin lies amid the forested Brdy Highlands, which surround it on all sides. Lom Nad Planinou is a system of quarries that had already been abandoned by the end of the 19th century. Lom Nad Planinou lies directly on the blue hiking trail from Janov to Hrádek.

The “Stezka za černým diamantem” educational trail is approximately 4 km long. Its stations provide information about coal mining, geology and natural monuments; the trail passes through woodland and meadows and along watercourses, where visitors can observe the local flora and fauna.

Approximately 2 km west of Mirošov lies the 834-hectare Kamínky Nature Park. An asphalt forest road there forms part of a cycle route that leads, among other places, to Lopata Castle, Kornatice and Kozel Chateau near Šťáhlavice. For planning a day trip, cultural sites, the walk, the educational trail and the cycle route can be considered as separate focal points; their length, area and location represent different scales.
