The chapel “Kaplička Nejsvětější trojice,” dating from the first half of the 18th century, stands on the village green in Plešnice. Its vaulted painting depicts angels carrying a cross into heaven.

Culture and history

The settlement of Plešnice was founded sometime in the 13th century. The village green in Plešnice lies on a steep slope.

The Buben Castle ruins are an important archaeological site in the cadastral area of Plešnice. They are located 1,200 m northeast of Plešnice at the confluence of the Úlický potok and the Mže. The ruins include an outer bailey, a fortified zwinger, a residential tower, an L-shaped palas and a high defensive wall. The castle is believed to have had an important strategic and commercial function, as it stood on a valley route from Plzeň to Cheb. The Buben Castle ruins are freely accessible.

Marked trails

A blue-marked hiking trail to the Buben Castle ruins begins at Plešnice railway station. A blue-marked forest trail from Plešnice to the ruins runs along the Úlický potok and is also suitable for strollers. From Buben, the blue-marked hiking trail continues southeast to Tlučná.

Long-distance cycle route No. 37 passes through Plešnice and runs via Železná, Bělá nad Radbuzou, Stříbro, Pňovany, Nová Jezná, Plešnice, Bdeněves and Plzeň. In addition, the green-marked hiking trail runs along the Mže toward the Hracholusky Reservoir.

Plešnice can be reached from Plzeň by train in approximately 21 minutes; trains run approximately every two hours.
