History and Culture

The Church of St. Wenceslas is the defining landmark in Stráž's skyline. On August 23, 1331, the town received a royal privilege that granted, among other things, a weekly market every Saturday.

The Nový hrad archaeological site lies west of Stráž. The medieval site near Stráž is interpreted as a guard station or customs post dating from around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Its irregular square ground plan, a partially water-filled moat, an elevated acropolis, and a mighty rampart shape the preserved appearance.

The Jewish cemetery near Stráž is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Bohemia and is documented in written sources for the year 1450. It is enclosed by a stone wall; 21 gravestones, the pillars of the former gate, and a pedestrian gate have been preserved.

Landscape and Nature

Established in 1980, Valcha Nature Park extends across the cadastral areas of Stráž u Tachova, Borek u Tachova, Bernartice u Stráže, Strachovice u Bernartic, Olešná, and Bonětice. The nature park features large granite boulders and rock formations created by frost weathering. It lies on the edge of the Valcha settlement along a yellow-marked trail in the direction of Borek u Tachova.

Mount Přimda lies in the vicinity of Stráž. The Strážská hůrka hill (Stráž u Tachova) lies in the immediate vicinity of Stráž. The wider regional area also includes Viči hora and Železný vrch.

The Sycherák leisure centre offers opportunities for swimming, camping, and fishing.
