Svojšín: Hotels and Accommodation

Svojšín lies in the valley of the Mže, where the river has cut into predominantly wooded hill country and, in the lowlands, is accompanied by meadows with diverse flora and fauna.

Culture and History

Svojšín Castle was built in 1723 under Count Jan Václav Příchovský on the site of an older structure. The one-storey château features a passageway accessed through a stone portal, with preserved leather wallpaper and Baroque marble fireplaces; two ornamental gardens adjoin the château.

The Church of St Peter and Paul is dated to the mid-12th century based on its masonry technique, featuring large sandstone blocks, and is considered one of the most important monuments of its kind in southwestern Bohemia.

Near the railway station stands the Chapel of St Nicholas, which was restored from 2017 to 2023 at its original location and in its original form, based on surviving photographs.

The Jewish Cemetery in Řebří was declared a cultural monument in 2007. To this day, 143 gravestones have been preserved in the cemetery, including one dating from 1742.

Landscape and Trails

The “Skalní defilé” educational trail starts at Svojšín Castle and is laid out as a 3 km round-trip route. At its end, it offers a view of the Svojšín Basin and the meanders of the Mže.

The lookout point on Tannenberg, at the cross marking the site of a former forest chapel, can be reached from Svojšín Castle via a 3 km round-trip route, initially following red and then green hiking trail markers.

In spring, the Mže can be navigated from the section between Pavlovice and Svojšín and, if conditions permit, farther on to Stříbro.

Getting There

Svojšín railway station offers step-free access to the station building or passenger shelter, as well as to all platforms. It is located on line 178 between Plzeň and Cheb and on line 186 between Svojšín and Bor.
