Brod Nad Tichou: Hotels and Accommodation

On the eastern side of Brod nad Tichou, the complex surrounding the Church of St James the Greater forms a distinctive silhouette and is considered a significant landscape landmark of West Bohemia.

History and Sacred Architecture

Brod nad Tichou was first mentioned in 1243 as a parish village. The settlement developed at a crossing of the Tichá, also known as Hamerský potok, on the historic north–south route between Planá and Bor. In 1379, Brod was mentioned as a market town with a parish church and fortress.

The Church of St James the Greater has a Gothic chancel and a Gothic sacristy; its nave was completed in its present Baroque form in 1683. The oldest surviving part is the chancel, which was rebuilt at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. The church stands on a hill with a cemetery, buildings of the former rectory, and traces of a vanished castle.

Next to the bridge stands the Baroque statue of St John Nepomuk from 1738, which has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. On the grounds of the former Brod nad Tichou fortress, faint traces of a ditch, rampart, and further ground undulations have been preserved.
