Vrhaveč lies in a basin through which the Drnový potok stream flows. The village is bordered by gentle hills to the west and east.
Cycling routes and landscape
The main cycling route through Vrhaveč and Běšiny is more than 11 kilometers long on this section. It connects Klatovy at Luby railway station with the municipalities of Vrhaveč.
The gently rolling landscape around Vrhaveč is suitable for easy bike rides.
Paths and views
A red-marked hiking trail runs through Hejno, connecting Klatovy and Velhartice. Hejno lies in a saddle between Holý vrch, at 547 meters, and Červený vrch, at 509 meters.
The Spálený les forest near Hejno has a network of forest paths and purpose-built adrenaline cycling trails. Hejno offers views of parts of Klatovy, Pošumaví, and the Bohemian Forest.
The ruins of the Baroque Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1730, lie in the forest about 1 kilometer from Loreta. The chapel can be reached via yellow-marked hiking trails from Loreta or Týnec.
History and local life
Kouskova Lhota in Černé Krávy is a former fortified manor with a farmstead dating from the first half of the 16th century. The surviving two-story tower of Kouskova Lhota served as a granary from the 17th century onward.
A walk can lead around Kouskova Lhota and through the forest to Farářova studánka.
A local association in Vrhaveč organizes an annual Shrovetide procession through the municipality. Children in Vrhaveč organize the Easter rattling tradition locally.
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Neznašovy was built in 1876. The Chapel of Saint Anne in Vrhaveč was consecrated in 1937.
An annual traditional pilgrimage was held at the chapel in Vrhaveč on the feast day of Saint Anne. During the Neznašovy pilgrimage in June, Mass was celebrated once a year in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Neznašovy. Masses were celebrated monthly in the Chapel of Saint Anne in Vrhaveč from 1995 onward.
Firefighting competitions in Vrhaveč ended with a festive event held as part of the pilgrimage.
Leisure
The multipurpose sports and leisure facility in Vrhaveč is open to the public every day: from May to September from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and from October to April from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations can be made with the facility manager.
