Bolešiny: Hotels and accommodation

Bolešiny combines short walks through the landscape with small cultural monuments and a local theatre tradition. The two educational trails showcase different aspects of the surroundings: woodland and distant views, as well as information about the local flora and fauna.

Nature

The “Toulky okolím Bolešin 2” educational trail is 3.5 km long and can be completed on foot at a leisurely pace in about an hour. It leads through the forest and offers views of the highest peaks of the Šumava.

The “Okolím Bolešin” educational trail runs between Bolešiny and Ostřetice. Along the way, views open up over the Klatovská kotlina basin, the panorama of the Šumava and the Plánický hřeben ridge. Six information-board stops focus on the flora and fauna of the area, especially birds.

A cycling route is also connected with Bolešiny: it runs from Klatovy via Ostřetice, Petrovičky, Němčice, Újezd u Plánice and Plánice to Bolešiny, and then back to Klatovy.

Culture and history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Na Stráni was built in 1897. Inside is an oversized statue of the Virgin Mary. It previously stood in an original wooden chapel that burned down.

Bolešiny is also home to a small octagonal village chapel dating from before 1775. Its octagonal pyramidal roof is interrupted by a lantern and topped with an onion dome.

The local cultural centre is the home venue of Ochotnické divadlo Bolešiny. The “Fourth Advent Candle” event traditionally combines a programme by local amateur actors with a competition for the best Christmas pastries.
