History

Domašín was first mentioned in written sources in 1366. From the end of the 16th century until 1849, Domašín belonged to the Telč estate. Domašín was first incorporated into Studená as early as 1557 and at that time belonged to Studenská Rychta.

The earliest known owner of Domašín was Štěpán z Březnice, lord of Šternberk Castle. He is recorded as its owner in the mid-14th century.

Nature

The local “K Domašínu” biocentre is located between Horní Pole and Domašín and covers 15.13 hectares. It includes a spring-fed slope peat bog, adjacent peat meadows, and wetlands with occurrences of specially protected plant and animal species.

Hiking and Cycling

The “Poznej kraj pod Javořicí” educational trail opened on November 7, 2007, and consists of two overlapping circular routes. The shorter circular route passes through the first five stations. The fourth station is located in Horní Pole at the “K Domašínu” biocentre.

The approximately 25-kilometre “Po stopách husitů” hiking route follows its final section from Jihlávka to Studená via Domašín. For cyclists, the Craft and Faith Greenway passes through Domašín and continues to Horní Pole, forming a 40-kilometre circular cycling route.

Surroundings

The mountains Za Vrškem, Kalcův vrch, and Babí hora are located in the immediate surroundings of Domašín. Mount Křemení is located near Domašín.

The Janštejn ruins, Roštejn Castle [Doupě], and the Church of Svatý Ondřej are also located in the surrounding area. Landštejn Castle lies in the wider regional surroundings of Domašín.
