Culture and History
Babice u Rosic belonged to the monastery in Oslavany from 1228 to 1307; in 1307, it was acquired by the monastery in Sedlec near Kutná Hora through purchase.
The former Ferdinand Mine in Babice u Rosic was in operation from 1856 to 1955. In 1910, an aerial cableway connected the Ferdinand Mine with the Julius Mine. The Ferdinand Mine was the first vertical mine in the Rosice area.
Landscape
In the forest, the former mine shaft sites can still be identified by depressions or spoil-heap embankments. The Babice spoil heap is an artificial hill created by decades of accumulating mining waste.
Things to Do
The Miners’ Trail can be explored by bicycle or on foot and leads to mining monuments and unusual sacred buildings. For Babice u Rosic, the excursion tip “Along the Track to the Mine” is offered. Babice u Rosic is also home to a memorial cross commemorating the departure of Napoleon’s troops.
The tourist narrow-gauge railway runs along the route Zbýšov – Babice u Rosic – Zastávka u Brna. A valid ticket is required for travel on the tourist narrow-gauge railway.
