Hlohovec: Hotels and Accommodation

The Hlohovec area lies within the Lednice-Valtice Complex Landscape Heritage Zone. The Lednice-Valtice Complex was built mainly in the 18th and 19th centuries under the rule of the Liechtenstein family. Buildings, avenues and bodies of water shape the site and its surroundings.

Culture

The Church of St Bartholomew in Hlohovec is a single-nave late Classicist building dating from 1832. Another important building is the Hraniční zámeček, a Classicist structure built on the banks of the Hlohovecký rybník in 1826–1827.

Traditional Slovak folk costume festivals are held twice a year in Hlohovec. The scenic Bezručova Avenue also runs through the area.

Landscape

The Hlohovecký rybník belongs to the cadastral area of Hlohovec. This pond is part of the interconnected Lednické rybníky system, which is protected to conserve birds and other animals, plant life and the character of the landscape.

Stará hora rises west of Hlohovec, with Tertiary limestone on which remnants of steppe grassland have been preserved. Boří les extends into the southeastern part of the Hlohovec municipal area.

Trails and Regional Cuisine

Hlohovec is a starting point for hiking and cycling trips between the Lednické rybníky, the former Liechtenstein forests and the vineyards. Cycle Route 411 connects Valtice, Hlohovec, the Hraniční zámeček and Lednice over a distance of approximately 12 kilometres.

Visitors can drink wine in the local wine cellars. Local Hlohovec dishes include opuchlé buchty, žgance and slížky.
