Holubice: Hotels and Accommodation

Holubice lies within the protected heritage zone of the Austerlitz battlefield – whether you book a hotel for your stay is, independently of this, a practical decision.

Geographical Location

Holubice lies in an intensively farmed, hilly and varied landscape on the right bank of the Rakovec stream, at the boundary between the Thaya–Svratka Valley and the Upper Moravian Valley.

Culture and History

The educational trail on the Battle of Slavkov runs through Holubice. The public educational trail “Battle of the Three Emperors” explains the significance of the battle and its most important combat operations using 29 map panels. On site, it provides information about the battle’s political significance in Europe and its global military significance. The map panels show the combat situation, portraits of the commanders, and schematic representations of the most important combat operations, and contain texts about the situation on 2 December 1805. Heavy fighting took place in the northern part of the Austerlitz battlefield near the municipalities of Holubice and Kruh.

The Church of Saint Wenceslas was completed and ceremonially handed over to the public on 14 July 1929. It was built with money collected from local residents and supported by local patrons Cyril Frank, František Brtník, František Frank and Alois Frank. The Chapel of Saint Gotthard dates from the 18th century and stands in a small park on the village square in Holubice.

During the construction of the D1 motorway, rescue excavations uncovered a Stone Age grave and a Lombard cemetery, as well as jewellery, ceramic vessels, weapons and various tools.

Events

Babské hody is a folk tradition held annually in May, featuring traditional costumes, a procession through the village accompanied by a brass band, and an evening dance at the cultural centre. Svatováclavské hody regularly takes place at the end of September in connection with the feast of Saint Wenceslas.

Martinské hody is celebrated in November and includes traditional headdresses, woollen scarves, slivovitz and an evening dance accompanied by a cimbalom band. At the end of the year, the Church of Saint Wenceslas hosts a long-standing Christmas concert tradition. The 10th edition of “Holubácká sedmička” was a seven-event competition involving ball games for teams of two.
