Lanžhot lies in the floodplain of the Dyje and Morava rivers. Its surroundings feature characteristic floodplain forests and floodplain meadows.
Natural Environment
The Lanžhotské pralesy National Nature Reserve extends partly across the cadastral area of Lanžhot. It protects floodplain forests, oak-hornbeam forests, reed beds, tall sedge stands, meadows and pastures, as well as aquatic plant communities.
The Soutok Protected Landscape Area protects a river landscape with river channels, meanders, wetlands and flooded meadows. Endangered fish, amphibians and aquatic plants occur in this landscape.
The hill (Zadní díly) [Kostice] is located in the vicinity of Lanžhot. The Ostrý and Vinohrádky hills are also located nearby. The Barbajky hill is situated in the wider regional surroundings.
Cycling and Activities
The marked Moravská stezka cycling route passes through the cadastral area of Lanžhot. From there, it continues past the Soutok Game Reserve and then along Hraniční cesta to Břeclav. The route connects the Jeseníky Mountains with South Moravia.
The Sokolské sports complex includes an inline skating track, a fitness room, a children's playground and a workout playground, tennis courts, and a petanque court.
The pump track in Lanžhot is intended for children, teenagers and adults to ride bicycles, scooters, balance bikes, skateboards and inline skates.
Culture and History
The Lanžhot Museum presents folk culture through historical household furnishings, historical clothing, and traditional local costumes from the past and present.
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is mentioned in an entry from 1373, which refers to the parish school and the church.
During the Lanžhotské hody festival, a hand-built maypole structure is erected across the entire square on Saturday. The traditional song “Tá lanžhocká mája tenká…” is performed at the conclusion.
Pohansko Castle is located in the vicinity of Lanžhot. Holíčsky zámok Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Lanžhot. The Šaštín ruin site and the Court Column monument are also located in the wider regional surroundings of Lanžhot.
Practical Information
Since 1 March 2015, tickets have no longer been available for purchase at Lanžhot railway station. Travellers can purchase tickets on the train, at the ČD Centre at Břeclav railway station, or via internet applications.
