Šitbořice: Hotels and Accommodation

Hradisko is an important archaeological site in Šitbořice, with the remains of a probably medieval fortification. A central hill, a ditch and an inner rampart have been preserved. The low hill lies in the middle of Šitbořice; according to legend, it is associated with a small castle. Its circular shape resembles a Celtic fortification, and several archaeological finds have also been made there.

The Church of St. Nicholas is a single-nave building in the Neo-Romanesque style. It was built in 1910–1913 on the site of an original medieval church. The church is used every day; several hundred parishioners attend Sunday services.

Šitbořice lies where the Dyje–Svratka Valley merges into the foothills of the Ždánický les. The surrounding landscape is characterized by steep hills and narrow ravines. The Velkopavlovická Wine Cycling Route and the Šaratice–Šitbořice Cycling Route (No. 5114) pass through the village.

From Brno, Šitbořice can be reached via Road II/380 in the direction of Hodonín. About 25 km from Brno, turn right after the municipality of Těšany.

Stavění máje, the raising of the maypole, remains a local tradition in Šitbořice and takes place at the end of April. The maypole is carried in a procession through the village to the Sokolovna, where it is erected communally; this tradition is followed by a dance at the Sokolovna.

Cycle ball is also firmly established in the events calendar: TJ Sokol Šitbořice and the municipality of Šitbořice organize the TURNAJ MISTRŮ SVĚTA cycle-ball tournament every year in February. International cycle-ball tournaments have been held regularly in Šitbořice since 1988.

During Svatováclavské hody, a traditional-costume procession makes its way to the Sokolovna, where a dance festival is then held. “Jaro na staré škole” is a traditional spring afternoon at the Stará škola in Šitbořice, featuring creative activities, social gatherings and an Easter atmosphere.

Štengar is hydrogen sulfide-containing mineral water in Šitbořice. It has a sulfane concentration of 5.50–9.50 mg/l H2S. Therapeutic baths have been established in the renovated Orlovna community center.
