Popice: Hotels and Accommodations

Popice hosts the Tour de sklep wine event every year. During a walk through the cellars, visitors can taste at least 120 wines. The Gotberg winery building is an example of modern wine architecture; wine tastings are offered there on a terrace with a beautiful view. The Sonberk winery offers a walk through the vineyards with an audio guide. On designated days, Sonberk also offers private guided tours with commentary and a guided wine tasting by reservation.

The Popice Stations of the Cross comprises 14 marble stations between the Sonberk and Gotberg vineyards and ends at the Gate of Life. The vineyard trail of the Stations of the Cross is freely accessible and runs directly along the Moravian Wine Trail.

The Church of St. Andrew was originally a Romanesque building and was extensively rebuilt from 1696 to 1699. Its interior is Baroque. At the same time, it is considered Popice’s most important monument. The church is usually accessible during regular services.

The Chapel of St. Rosalia, St. Roch and St. Sebastian was built from 1716 to 1717.

The protected natural monument of Hochberk lies in the cadastral territories of Popice and Uherčice u Hustopečí. It protects xerothermic dry steppe grasslands and thermophilous Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests with numerous endangered and specially protected plant species as well as significant invertebrate species.

The most important protected plant species in Hochberk include Tatary sea kale (Crambe tataria), white broom (Chamaecytisus albus) and hairy flax (Linum hirsutum subsp. hirsutum).

Popice is located 8 km from Hustopeče and can be reached from there by car, bus, train or bicycle.
