Medlovice: Chapel, Nature and Local Festivals

Medlovice combines a clearly dated cultural site with a protected area and several event occasions. The Chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi was built in 1899. Thus, the village brings together a historic religious building, protected nature and a changing event calendar.

Culture

A stone cross on the road to Rybníček was restored in August 2023. The local library in Medlovice provides public library and information services under equal conditions for all citizens. The chapel, stone cross and library therefore represent different cultural points of reference: the first site refers to the year of construction, the cross to a specific restoration and the library to a public service.

Nature

In the Nad Medlovickým potokem protected area, thermophilous plant communities of the Pannonian-Pontic type are protected. Wild animals, particularly amphibians, are also protected there. Thus, two nature-related topics can be distinguished for purposes of content classification: the distinctive plant life and the protected wildlife. Both belong to the protected area, but are characterized by different features.

Events

The festivals recorded in Medlovice differ in their time references. Pálení čarodějnic is recorded for 2024 and 2025, while Drakiáda is recorded for 2023 and 2024. Letní noc took place in Medlovice in 2023 and was announced again for 2025. Stavění máje is recorded for 2023 and was part of the Pálení čarodějnic event announced for 2024.

The events also differ in their temporal form: some details refer to individual years, while others refer to multiple editions or a renewed announcement. These differences are more important for the chronological classification than a blanket summary of the festival calendar. This makes it possible to consider the individual dates separately without mixing historical and announced information.

Local Cuisine

Medlovské košt ovocných pálenek was held in several editions. At the first edition, 21 varieties of fruit spirits could be sampled; at the second edition in 2023, 26 samples were evaluated. A third edition was announced for 2024. Across the several editions, both the development and the difference between sampled varieties and evaluated samples become apparent.

The traditional Masové hody was held in Medlovice several times. Roast pork with cabbage, garlic schnitzel, beer and mulled wine were offered there; homemade slaughterhouse specialities were sold to take away. This festival therefore combines hot meals, beverages and takeaway offerings. In terms of content, this distinguishes Masové hody from the tasting of fruit spirits.

When choosing a hotel in Medlovice, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be compared separately. This keeps the different focal points of the village — culture, the protected area, festivals classified by date and regional food — independent of the respective offer details.

Other places on the same higher administrative level are Kučerov, Hvězdlice, Zelená Hora, Račice-Pístovice, Nesovice, Tučapy, Ruprechtov and Rostěnice-Zvonovice.
