Mikulčice: Hotels and Accommodation

The parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has foundations dating from the 13th century, a nave and chancel from the 15th century; the tower was built in 1701. The church contains a striking, massive altar made from oak trunks found in the riverbed of the Morava. In front of the building stands a Baroque statue of St. Oldřich. The repaired Lekavých kříž was reinstalled in the park by the church on April 23, 2008.

The Chapel of St. Roch at the cemetery is a national cultural monument and is decorated with a painted Slovácký žudr. The history of the place also includes the guided archaeological exhibition “KOSTEL,” featuring the authentic remains of a 9th-century church, part of a burial ground, and numerous exhibits.

The “LODĚ” exhibition displays two oak monoxyles from the end of the 9th century as well as numerous audiovisual elements; a visit usually takes about 45 minutes. The Smart Guide mobile visitor guide offers three routes through the Slovanské hradiště site with photos, texts, and recordings. After being downloaded in advance, it can be used without mobile data.

The excursion “Za Slovany a Vínečkem bílým” begins on the village green in Mikulčice, leads via the Vinařská podlužácká stezka directly to the Slovanské hradiště Mikulčice, and returns to Mikulčice via a blue-marked hiking route. The 18-kilometer route runs along paved roads and field paths and has a low level of difficulty.

Near the Slovanské hradiště, the Skařiny nature reserve includes meanders of the Morava and an alluvial forest with breeding colonies of white storks and grey herons. In the vicinity of Mikulčice, the Slovanské hradiště is connected to the Slovak part of the Archaeopark by the Lávka Velké Moravy foot and cycle bridge.

Mikulčice has a long tradition of winegrowing. The Muzeum vinařství a vinohradnictví Mikulčice presents a thematic exhibition on the history of winegrowing and the wine industry in a post-and-beam barn and offers an insight into the operation of its fruit press.

The Chalupa Fanoše Mikuleckého is a museum in his birthplace. On display are exhibitions about his life and work, furnishings from the first half of the 20th century, and a preserved wooden tobacco-drying barn. During current exhibitions, the museum is open on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; outside Sunday opening hours, it is accessible by telephone appointment.

The archaeological site has a 30-meter-high observation tower offering views primarily of the early medieval fortified settlement and the surrounding area. In good visibility, the White Carpathians and Slovakia’s Little Carpathians can be seen. The Mikulčice Tourist Information Center also offers bicycle rental.
