Mikulov: Hotels and Accommodations

The Mikulov Synagogue is the only surviving synagogue in Moravia of the so-called Polish type and dates in essence from the mid-16th century. In Mikulov’s historic Jewish quarter, 45 of the buildings that have survived to this day have been protected as immovable cultural monuments. The Rabbinic Hill is located in the Jewish cemetery and is considered its most valuable and most visited section; it contains tombstones of rabbis from Mikulov and Moravia’s chief rabbis.

Mikulov Chateau stands on a prominent rocky outcrop and has been a highly visible landmark of the city for several centuries. Today, it is home to the Regional Museum in Mikulov and houses several interesting exhibitions. The chateau library contains around 11,000 volumes.

Other historical sites include Kozí hrádek, a two-storey Late Gothic artillery tower built on Kozí vrch in the 15th century, as well as the Mikulov MJ-S 29 “SVAH” fortress. It features a visitor exhibition with weapons and other equipment and armament components of the Czechoslovak People’s Army.

Svatý kopeček has been designated a nature reserve because of the abundance of protected and rare plant and animal species. Its southern slopes are covered by a species-rich rocky steppe.

The Na Turold Cave lies in the nature reserve of 385-metre-high Turold. Turold is located on the northern outskirts of Mikulov.

The “Mikulov – Around Mikulov, Svatý kopeček (Holy Hill)” cycle route is around 4.8 km long and has a difficulty rating of 1. The 1.5-km-long “In the Footsteps of the Anabaptists” educational trail also runs through the city streets. It is easily accessible and not demanding. Five information panels explain the short but fruitful period during which Anabaptists settled in Mikulov from 1526 onwards; the first panel is located in the city centre next to the Dietrichstein Burial Chapel.

The church tower of St. Wenceslas Church in Mikulov can be climbed via 135 steps and offers panoramic views of the whole city. The Svatý kopeček educational trail consists of a total of 11 information panels and includes a viewpoint above the quarry.

In Mikulov, visitors can take part in wine-tasting experiences at renowned wineries, wine cellars and vinotheques.
