Pustiměř: Hotels and Accommodation

Pustiměř lies on the boundary between the intensively farmed Haná region and the wooded landscape of the Drahanská vrchovina uplands; you can book a hotel for your stay, while historic monuments and an educational trail add to the character of the locality.

Culture and History

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Benedict is Pustiměř’s most prominent cultural landmark. The present church was built in 1900 and 1901 in place of the older church.

Among the older monuments is the Romanesque Rotunda of St. Pantaleon: its remains date from the first quarter of the 12th century. The Chapel of St. Anne is located in the immediate vicinity of the rotunda and became a pilgrimage church towards the end of the 17th century. The St. Anne pilgrimage takes place there every year around 26 July.

In the wider regional area lies Melice, the archaeologically researched ruin of a bishop’s castle with an extensive outer bailey on a promontory between Pustiměř and Drysice. Pustiměř is considered one of the oldest settlements documented in written records in the Vyškov region.

The Pustiměř Ostatky are part of the local tradition. They include the ceremonial transfer of control over the municipality from the mayor to the Ostatníci as part of the ostatkové právo. The Pustiměř Ostatky festival is held over two days approximately every two to three years.

The grounds of the former monastery are entered through a small gate south of the Church of St. Benedict.

Nature and Trails

Within Pustiměř, the Letiště Marchanice natural monument protects the habitat of the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus). Near the church, the Pustiměřská lípa is one of Pustiměř’s significant natural assets.

The Melice educational trail runs along paved and forest paths and is suitable for families with children. It is a circular route approximately 6.5 km long.

Pustiměř can be reached by car or bus; a small car park is located near a shop and a bus stop.
