Culture and History

The Chotiněves Village Heritage Zone was designated on 22 September 1995. It essentially encompasses the entire built-up part of the village.

In the centre of Chotiněves stands the Chapel of Saint Procopius on a narrow island between roads. The rectangular, plastered building has a semicircular chancel and a triangular gable with a small bell turret. Inside, there is a barrel vault with lunettes and rich fresco decoration.

A tower was added to the Protestant church in Chotiněves in 1987. Its bell comes from the former church in Habřina.

Chotiněves contains exceptionally well-preserved examples of farmsteads dating from the 18th to the 20th century. Large masonry farmsteads alternate with wooden buildings featuring arcades and half-timbered construction. The village is also home to a small local history museum and a long, spindle-shaped village green. Part of the rubble-stone foundations and deep cellars of the castle of the Berka von Dubá family have survived at house numbers 45–48.

Nature and Trails

Southwest of Chotiněves stands the Hořidla observation tower on the eponymous 371-metre-high hill. It can only be reached on foot via field and forest paths, including from Chotiněves or Jištěrpy, as well as from the Třebutičky–Encovany road via a turn-off to the left by the cross. The observation tower is freely accessible year-round.
