Hlinná: Hotels and accommodations

Hlinná lies at the end of the valley of the Tlučeňský potok stream at the foot of the 545 m-high Hradiště hill. The landscape, hiking trails, and viewpoints shape the locality, as do traces of a long history and regional events.

Landscape and nature

In the Litoměřice District, the Hradiště nature monument is located on the mountain of the same name; the area is managed by the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The Holý vrch u Hlinné Special Area of Conservation includes the basalt hills Hradiště (545 m above sea level) and Holý vrch (574 m above sea level), which are remnants of a lava layer. On the western slope of Holý vrch are distinctive rock formations shaped by frost weathering, popularly known as “Učitel a žáci.”

The Hradiště mountain features partially wooded areas, steppe meadows, rocky outcrops, and scree slopes. The Holý vrch u Hlinné area is home to rock, rocky-steppe, scree, and dry-grassland communities, including stands of the critically endangered species koniklec otevřený.

Hiking and viewpoints

The summit of Hradiště can be reached from Hlinná via a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Hlinná–Kamýk educational trail also begins in Hlinná, leading toward Holý vrch, Velké hradiště, and Plešivec mountain before returning to Hlinná. Along the way, Hradiště mountain offers partially wooded areas, steppe meadows, rocky outcrops, and scree slopes; its summit provides expansive views of the surrounding landscape.

At the summit of Varhošť stands a lookout tower offering views of the České středohoří and the course of the Elbe. The Elbe can be seen from there at eight points. The easy ascent to Varhošť follows the yellow trail from the saddle below Varhošť and is approximately 1.5 km long there and back.

Trails and classification

The Hlinná–Kamýk educational trail is approximately 10 km long. On the educational trail, visitors can determine the order of the stations themselves or walk only part of the route. Varhošť is listed under Kundratice, a locality of Hlinná.

History and culture

Hlinná is first mentioned in 1337. Archaeological finds on the Hradiště and Kamýk mountains, approximately 1 km southeast of Hlinná, attest to settlement of the municipality’s territory by Celtic tribes around the 3rd to 1st centuries BC.

At the Slavnosti pastvin festival, visitors can try traditional crafts hands-on and experience domestic and wild animals. Slavnosti pastvin also includes a market featuring regional products.
